Attaware Edible Cutlery – Savor Sustainability, Bite by Bite

Can your plate do more than just hold your food? Think again. Yes, you cannot only serve favourite delicacies but also consume them post use. However, these plates are neither made of plastic or steel or aluminium. These are made of edible items like Jowar, Bajra, and Ragi.

Are you curious about the person behind this groundbreaking discovery? Not only did he pioneer single-use cutlery, but he also ensured that they are 100 percent edible through his startup called Attaware Edible Cutlery. Imagine a plate that not only serves your favourite delicacies but can also be devoured itself.

Meet Mr. Puneet Dutta, the mastermind behind the revolutionary startup—Attaware Edible Cutlery. With his pioneering work, he has crafted single-use cutlery made entirely from edible ingredients like Jowar, Bajra, and Ragi. These plates redefine sustainability while tantalising your taste buds.

The inspiration behind the start-up

India generates 9.46 millions of plastic waste every year. Out of this, 43 percent is single use plastic. Puneet realised that there was a simple solution for this massive problem after watching a man using poori as a plate to hold a cup of Chole amid others using the plastic use and throw plate. Inspired he spent six years researching the edible cutlery before launching Attaware in 2019.

Attaware’s first launched product was an edible tea cup made of wheat, Jowar, Bajra. Corn and Jaggery. The start-up sold 9.5 lakhs cups every week which ultimately pushed them to add new flavours including Ginger, Caramel, Saunf, Strawberry, Orange, Tulsi, Vanilla and Coffee.

Currently, the startup is manufacturing 5 types of single use products – Plates, Spoons, Glasses, bowls and takeaway containers. Not to forget, these products do not contain any colour or preservatives with a shelf life of 6 months and do not melt for 5 hours of use.

Advantages of the Initiative

  1. Environmental Sustainability – Marine life, in particular, is seriously threatened by plastic trash. We can lessen the quantity of plastic trash produced by using Attaware’s edible cutlery, which will result in cleaner oceans, a less strain on landfills, and a healthier ecosystem.

  1. Reduce Single-Use Plastic – Attaware’s products are designed expressly to address the issue of single-use plastic, which is responsible for 43% of India’s plastic waste. We may drastically reduce the amount of single-use plastic that is thrown away after a single meal or function by using edible plates, utensils, glasses, bowls, and takeaway containers.

  1. Waste reduction – All edible goods from Attaware are consumed in full, producing no leftovers. Attaware items are edible and produce less trash than conventional plastic cutlery and containers, which must be thrown away and add to the world’s mounting waste problem.

  1. Nutritional Value – When compared to plastic cutlery, Attaware goods have a higher nutritional value because they are created from natural components like wheat, jowar, bajra, corn and jaggery. These consumables can enhance a meal by supplying fibre and nutrition.

  1. No chemicals or preservatives – Attaware goods don’t contain any harmful chemicals, including preservatives or colours. Eliminating these toxic chemicals lowers the possibility of consuming poisons or other dangerous things, making dining out safer.

  1. Heat Resistance – Attaware products are perfect for hot beverages, soups, and other warm meals since they do not melt for up to 5 hours of use. The cutlery is guaranteed to be durable and usable during the entire dinner, thanks to this heat resistance.

  1. Safety for Wildlife – Attaware’s edible cutlery offers a safer option to regular plastic cutlery, which can hurt wildlife if consumed or entangled. These edible utensils pose no damage to wildlife if they are accidently lost or dumped in the outdoors. The goods made by Attaware are safe for animals to ingest without having any negative side effects.

  1. Organic decompose – Attaware’s edible cutlery is biodegradable, which means it will eventually decompose organically. These items will break down if they are unintentionally dumped in the environment, lowering their environmental impact. As opposed to conventional plastic, the organic ingredients utilised in Attaware’s products are more easily degraded, lowering the danger of harm to ecosystems and wildlife.

  1. Can be fed to animals – Animals may obtain a slight nutritional benefit from eating Attaware’s edible cutlery due to the usage of natural substances like wheat, Jowar, Bajra, corn and jaggery. Even though these items are primarily made for human use, some animals that are hungry may be able to find food in them.
