5G Launch in India – The future is here!

With the 5G launch in on 1st October 2022, prime minister Narendra Modi brings a new wave of development and prosperity to the technology world.

Big names in the telecom industry – Mukesh Ambani of Reliance Industries Ltd, Sunil Bharati Mittal of Mittal enterprise, and Kumar Mangalam Birla of Aditya Birla Group along with Sri Narendra Modi announced the initiation of 5G services in the market soon.

The first phase will provide 5G services in thirteen cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Jamna Nagar, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Pune, and Lucknow. On the other hand, Mr. Mittal announced the launch of Bharati Airtel’s 5G services in eight cities among which are Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, and Bengaluru.

Talking about the recent developments in the Telecom Industry, the Prime minister of India stressed how the number of mobile industries in India increased by hundred times. According to the data, there were only 2 running mobile industries in 2014, however, now it is 200.

Sri Narendra Modi also made clear that the 5G initiative will not only ensure high internet speed but also major improvements in the sectors of- Environment, Healthcare, Transport, Agriculture, and Logistics.

Let’s talk in detail about the effects of the 5G rollout on the above sectors and know how 5G can be a game changer.

How can 5G launch in India be a game changer?

5G effect on the Environmental sector

The 5G revolution will have some great impacts on the environmental sector. Per unit data consumption of 5G will be much lesser in comparison to 4G which means this new technology will help in using energy efficiently thus safeguarding the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the environment and encouraging the usage of renewable forms of energy. Following are some of the ways 5G can be used in the environment sector

  1. Powered by the Internet of Things, the 5G network will help in switching on and off the devices according to the need of the hour. In the meantime, transportation networks, buildings, factories, street lights, and homes can assess their energy usage and try to optimize their energy use at the very moment.
  2. 5G can prove nothing less than a blessing during mishaps. Any problem in the city’s main grid may result in long-term electricity problems. In such situations, 5G can protect us from living in the dark for days. 5G with the Internet of Things has the potential to use microgrids online making it convenient to use various renewable forms of energy in such urgent situations.
  3. Cameras and sensors can be used via the 5G network. This will help in avoiding congestion problems and hence prove supportive in running the vehicles smoothly without traffic problems. Hence Lesser the traffic, the least are chances of emitting harmful greenhouse gases into the environment.

Healthcare

The importance of high-speed internet was witnessed during CoVid 19 era when patients who could not travel from remote areas took the help of telemedicine. On top of that, with the introduction of 5G Applications that ensure High-speed internet boosted by the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and advances in Robotics, a new upgraded healthcare system will come into existence. The use of 5G services in the healthcare sector will encourage the following developments:

  1. Remote surgery
  2. Tracking patient movement in the facilities
  3. Delivering continuous support during the treatment of patients
  4. Real-time monitoring using wearable devices
  5. Collaboration between medical professionals to improve the diagnosis of the patients.
  6. Data on symptoms, social factors, and lifestyle behavior helps in predicting health risks.
  7. Sending the scans and MRI files from doctors to patients and vice versa.
  8. Efficient working of connected devices within the hospital
  9. Improve bandwidths which in turn will help in providing care in urgent situations
  10. An application running via 5G for training medicos on the diagnosis of serious diseases that demand instant care. Encouraging usage of VR Headgears for interacting with patients and diagnosing them correctly

Transport & Logistics

5G can prove a game changer in the transport sector. Using 5G can help a great deal in improving public transport operations and planning. The introduction of dynamic support planning can potentially reduce the problem of traffic congestion and increase the space for cyclists and passersby. Similarly, 5G has some great effects on logistics. 5G has the potential to build smart warehouses and build stable connections between the Internet of Things and their accompanied networks. These are some of the best ways 5G can influence the transport and logistics sector

  1. 5G is helpful in real-time observation of public transport vehicles and simultaneously management of user demand
  2. Greater control over the transportation system. The low latency and high visibility are extremely helpful in determining how goods and people travel
  3. Useful in determining the real-time vehicle condition and hence extremely helpful in improving the driving conditions of the country
  4. More Electric Vehicles charging stations can be installed with the rollout of 5G services in the transport sector

Education

Surprisingly, we realized the importance of the internet when no alternative was left in the world except the web. CoVid 19 made us realize the importance of fast internet speed in the education sector. With every school and college closed during the pandemic, online education was the last resort left before us. Fortunately, the idea of conducting online classes became a hit all over the world and led to the opening of more online education platforms. A sudden boom in the EdTech companies has also been witnessed hence online learning took a front seat. Following are some of the advantages of introducing 5G in the education sector.

  1. Students can access education from even the remotest parts of the country. With more than 60 percent of the population of India living in the villages, it becomes quite difficult and time taking to open top-class institutions in every nook and corner of the country. In such situations, 5G can be a one-stop solution for candidates who want to acquire higher education despite living in the most backward parts of the country.
  2. Better internet conditions facilitate a personalized learning experience among the students. Every student has different doubts and weaknesses. Some are good at aptitude while others can grasp language well. Hence, one on one problem solving can be a much better idea and this can only be possible with high-speed internet. 5G has a lower latency rate which means students can interact easily with their tutors in a short period and hence can get their doubts cleared easily.
  3. Immersive learning is a well-known tool to encourage engagement. The interactive learning environment facilitates learning and a better understanding of core topics among students. Learning particular skills and techniques becomes much easier with interactive learning environment sessions. Hence, 5G will make these features easily operational and easy to interact with during doubt-solving sessions.

Agriculture

Very few people must have imagined the importance of 5G in the agriculture world. Like any other sector, our agriculture is in dire need of upgradation and development. 5G combined with technology can be a power pact combo for making farming more precise. We are used to implementing outdated one-kind techniques for the growth of every crop. However, every crop is different and hence requires different treatment. These are the following ways in which we can make the agricultural sector better.

  1. 5G with the Internet of Things can help in determining weather conditions, vehicles used in agricultural activities, pest control, and water supply conditions.
  2. The sad part is that the farmers who are responsible for bringing food to our tables are themselves not well equipped with complete knowledge. 5G can help educate our farmers by empowering them with the data they require for making good business decisions. A knowledgeable farmer can help minimize soil erosion, and reduce wastage of grain, water, fertilizer, and pesticide.
  3. 5G internet can help in running drones, animal tracking and monitoring sensors, driverless farm equipment, and weather stations to predict the weather and protect the crop from any future damage.

According to the estimate, 5G launch in India has the potential of making India a $5 trillion economy by 2024 – 2025. As per the experts, we can expect a cumulative impact of $1 trillion by 2035 and an extra GDP of 150 Billion between 2025- 2040.
