Bengaluru, April 22, 2023: Bengaluru-headquartered Log9 Materials, an advanced battery-technology and deep-technology start-up, today launched India’s first commercial Li-ion cell manufacturing facility at its campus in Jakkur, Bengaluru. Log9 Materials is at the forefront of redefining technology and rewriting the potential of the EV mobility and energy storage sectors.
Log9’s commercial Li-ion cell manufacturing line has an initial capacity of 50 MWh. This facility will cater to LTO and LFP cell manufacturing. The manufacturing line will support the production of large form factor cylindrical cells ranging from 22 Series to 66 Series. On the 5-year cell production roadmap, Log9’s LTO TiB cells will contribute to a carbon emission reduction of 90T per vehicle with a total CO2 reduction of 147 kT every year.
Log9 materials also launched its indigenously developed Battery Management System (BMS)—Charvik, an intelligent and intuitive battery management system incorporated with state-of-the-art power control mechanisms and SoX algorithms to ensure high safety and reliability for high-power applications.
In addition to the launches, the deep-tech start up shared its tech stack plan for enabling fast charging of LFP batteries on public charging networks while preserving best-in-class cycle life through advanced cooling technologies, better cell design, and advanced cell control mechanisms.
Log9 also launched its academic engagement program named Log9 Rise, centred around supporting the talent pool creation in the country in battery technologies.
On the occasion, several prominent personalities including Dr. Vijay Raghavan, Former Principal Scientific Adviser to the Prime Minister of India, Dr. K Sivan, Ex-Chairman, ISRO, and other dignitaries from IITs across the country graced the event with their presence.
Addressing the event, Dr. Akshay Singhal, Co-Founder & CEO, Log9 Materials, said, “It is a moment of great pride for us to commission India’s first commercial Li-ion cell manufacturing line on the 2nd edition of Day Zero. On this day, we also want to congratulate all the Log9ers who have been a part of this journey. It is a moment of pleasure for us to inform you that to date, Log has deployed almost 3000 batteries in EVs which have covered around 5.5 million kms. Log has also expanded its footprints in more than 20 cities across the country including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai etc”.
“Our cells are designed from the ground-up in India, for India; to suit Indian operating conditions, climate, and customers, and are hence going to play a crucial role in making India self-reliant while helping the nation realize its ambitious electric mobility vision,” added Singhal.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, Dr. Vijay Raghavan, said, “Climate change isn’t a challenge of tomorrow but a reality of today. Businesses, societies, and governments must work together to harness bold new ways to accelerate the race for zero emissions and tackle climate change head-on. Log9 combines innovative technologies to capture new opportunities and report a real success story”.
“The key to developing a successful organization which Log9 showed is to achieve growth while maintaining a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship. India, as a nation, possesses numerous opportunities in the field of deep technology. Deep tech holds great potential for combating climate change, with cell and battery technologies serving as a foundational component that enables the translation of cyber solutions to physical realities,” added Raghavan.
During the event, Guest of Honour, Dr. K Sivan said, “I am delighted to see that India is making great strides towards sustainability, and we are very close to reaching our target. It brings me immense joy to witness Log9’s significant contribution in this endeavour through the production of low-cost commercial lithium-ion cells. Log9’s remarkable growth in cell chemistry over the past year has been truly impressive, and they are now producing the safest, highest quality and most reliable cells in India”.
It may be noted that on April 21, 2022, Log9 laid the foundation for Day Zero, the first-ever technology showcase day, when it promised to pioneer the EV mobility sector and energy landscape of India. Moreover, Log9 made several commitments during last year’s event. One of the key commitments made was to commission India’s first Li-Ion cell manufacturing facility with the launch of the first indigenous commercial Li-Ion cell in the country. On the 2nd edition of Day Zero, April 21, 2023, Log9 stands tall with pride in meeting the commitments of commissioning India’s first commercial cell manufacturing line.
Log9 has an extensive product portfolio consisting of – RapidX range of EV batteries, including RapidX 2000 for commercial electric 2Ws, RapidX 6000 and 8000 for 3Ws, and RapidX 12000 and 15000 for 4Ws catering to last-mile deliveries. These LTO (lithium titanium oxide) batteries are designed specifically for tropical climatic conditions, making them the safest in the market.
