If someone asks you – How can you prove our world is moving towards renewable energy usage? Well, the best example you can give is Flipkart. With Flipkart pledging to source 100 percent of its electricity requirements from renewable sources by 2030, it becomes clear that the e-commerce world is putting its best foot forward in making the world a much better place economically as well as environmentally. The news is big with serious positive effects; hence it deserves a detailed piece of information.
Rooftop solar panels, open access, and evolving market access are Flipkart’s three major tools that will help achieve its renewable energy aim by 2030. This is the major step by Flipkart to join the RE100 commitment this coming year. As far as its progress now is concerned, Flipkart is already meeting 14 percent of its electricity requirements through renewable energy resources.
RE100 is a global initiative to encourage and bring together the world’s most renowned e-commerce companies to adopt 100 percent renewable electricity. The initiative led by the climate group in association with CDP is to make the world carbon neutral soon.
Be it eliminating single-use plastic from its supply chain or encouraging zero liquid discharge of wastewater, Flipkart has shown seriousness when it comes to waste management practices. Its efforts are also recognized and awarded with IGBC’s Green Building Certification and ISO 14001 certification.
Before planning for 100 percent electricity via renewable resources, the entity aimed for 100 percent electric mobility by deploying more than 25K electric scooters in its supply chain. The news spread like wildfire in 2021 when the organization decided to put this plan into action to install charging infrastructure near offices and delivery hubs.
The e-commerce giant has already come into action in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, and Pune with 2 and 3-wheeler electric vehicles. On top of that, it has also partnered with brands like Mahindra, Hero electric, and Piaggio to deploy certain vehicles as soon as they can.
Besides partnering with top entities, Flipkart is actively organizing awareness programs to encourage EV usage and it is also in full action mode when it comes to installing and charging more than 1400 infrastructure units for Electric vehicles particularly.
