Sudhakar Rice Industries, a prominent rice production and marketing company in T Narasipura taluk, Mysore, Karnataka, has taken a significant step towards sustainability by installing a state-of-the-art 150-kilowatt peak rooftop solar system at their facility. In an industry where energy consumption is substantial due to the processing and milling of rice, the adoption of solar energy is not only a strategic move towards reducing operational costs but also a commitment to sustainable practices.
This project, located at Asst No.143, Part I, Mysore Main Road, Tirumakudalu, T Narasipura, Mysore-571124, India, was executed by Orb Energy, a leading solar energy solutions provider founded in 2006 with the mission to make solar energy affordable, accessible, and hassle-free. For this project, Orb Energy deployed advanced 405 Wp (158.75) 72 Cells 5 Busbar Mono PERC solar modules, a highly efficient technology known for its superior energy conversion and durability. These modules were strategically placed on the GI Sheet roof of Sudhakar Rice Industries’ rice mill factory, optimizing the available space and ensuring maximum sunlight exposure.
The total investment for the solar installation was INR 5,167,773.00, with the system designed to produce approximately 16,200 units of electricity per month. This substantial energy output has enabled Sudhakar Rice Industries to reduce its reliance on grid electricity by 66%, leading to significant cost savings. The facility’s average monthly electricity consumption before the installation was 24,332 kilowatt hours, a demand now largely met by the solar system. The project operates under a net-metering scheme, allowing the factory to consume solar electricity produced during the day and export any excess energy to the grid, especially during non-operational days. This exported energy offsets the grid electricity consumed by the factory during evening and night-time operations.
The implementation of this solar project not only underscores Sudhakar Rice Industries’ commitment to sustainability but also represents a sound financial investment, with a payback period of just three years and six months. Furthermore, the project contributes to environmental conservation by reducing the company’s carbon emissions by approximately 175 tonnes per year. This initiative exemplifies the benefits of rooftop solar in the industrial sector, demonstrating how businesses can significantly reduce operational costs and environmental impact while harnessing renewable energy. Orb Energy’s role in this project highlights their expertise in delivering tailored solar solutions that meet the specific needs of industrial clients, further solidifying their position as a leader in the solar energy industry.
Orb Energy has emerged as one of the top 3 rooftop solar companies in India, having installed over 261 megawatts of rooftop solar systems across more than 1,296 commercial and industrial projects. Their vertically integrated approach allows them to control the entire process—from manufacturing solar panels to designing, installing, and servicing complete systems, and even financing customers—ensuring a seamless experience.
